Location aware browsing via Firefox… Whoa!
Man, this is some pretty cool technology to be used on geo sites but at the same time very scary if it is to be mis-used. Freakin Google and Firefox can now pinpoint the location from wherever you are surfing the net literally by 10 – 15 feet. No GPS required anymore like with mobile phones and any other electronic devices. Just an internet connection. Test it out for yourself… Ahh!!
So how does it work? Good question…
When you visit a location-aware website, Firefox will ask you if you want to share your location.
If you consent, Firefox gathers information about nearby wireless access points and your computer’s IP address. Then Firefox sends this information to the default geolocation service provider, Google Location Services, to get an estimate of your location. That location estimate is then shared with the requesting website.
I’ve tried this on a few computers now, at various locations and the damn thing is as spot on as can be down here in NY and NJ. Even better than the iPhone built-in locator at times…. Definitely going to try to incorporate this technology on a few localized sites in the near future. Cool stuff

Domain conferences offering what nobody gives a shit about…
Yup, that is sure how it seems nowadays.. Domain auctions that nobody gives a shit about… Keynote speakers that nobody gives a shit about… Overall just lots of hype and the same ol’ same old… So really, why should anybody give a shit about YOUR conference? Good question.
Now here is two important issues which may have a quick fix, coming from somebody who has been observing these domain conferences pretty much since inception, from the sidelines I will admit right off the bat, but nonetheless I have been observing them closely as I am always trying to keep up with whatever is up in this hyper active biz we all like to call domaining and the conferences since about 2004 have become a pretty “big deal” as many like to think…. Without a doubt.
Domain Auctions
So anyways, the auction problems has a very simple solution. It’s called better screening and more aggressive marketing of the top domains. Most auctions nowadays have hundreds of domains or even 500+ which is really overkill. You gotta be able to find the best of the best domains and make sure they are priced right so that they can at least get a bid or two, or maybe, just maybe get a bidding war.
It’s pretty embarrassing selling a dozen or few dozen domains out of 500+ and only having a few big sales here and there saving the day. Whoever is auctioning off these domains does not have a good pulse on the industry and not staying on top of things.
You would think that when you have all this exposure on the big stage, all eyes on you, you would put forward the best domains possible which have the biggest probability to appeal to the buyers and hopefully sell… But nope. Time and time over and over again we see this poor results and then next time around, it happens all over again. Go figure! LOL What a joke.
Domain Conferences Keynote Speakers
I don’t know if it’s just me, but many of the keynote speakers and just so called experts on the panels do not really interest me one bit, thus, I do not give a shit about what they have to say to begin with… I never read any post-conference reviews / highlights or watch the videos, unless there is somebody with a bunch of half naked chicks running around or doing something crazy stupid.
This problem right here is what directly infeluces attendance and the crowd turnout at all these events, once you take away the mini social get-togethers here and there, catching up from whomever and lovefest’ going on everywhere you look from insiders who kiss each others ass (clients and service providers) So cute and sweet. Aww!
Networking and biz opportunities can be improved 10x if there were a larger and maybe a more diverse crowd. It can happen… Without a doubt, but who is going to make it happen? Shit doesn’t just happen on it’s own. Firstly, I’d say…. There needs to be better keynote speakers to create buzz and of course just better panelists who know their stuff. Then maybe just maybe there is hope and light at the end of this dark and miserable tunnel we seem to be stuck in.
The current guys who have been called on are just a bunch of blahhhh people… Either nobody’s or has-been’s. They don’t really have any large communities or strong followings behind them or any achievements worthy of mentioning either.
Now if one of the conferences were to call up on say, Aaron Wall or Rand Fishkin… Whole different story. These people have 10,000’s if not 100,000’s of extremely dedicated followers and it’s likely that at least some of their loyal “fans” and supporters would show up at an event where they were speaking and maybe even endorsing via a partnership or some affiliate opportunities (creative marketing, lightbulb, gotta think outside the box at this stage) Hmm!?? Duh.
These people who already have a “street cred” and put in the work and have solid track records and plenty of success from many years is what’s missing from the domain conferences formula to truly breakthrough and become memorable / unique. Even if 50 or lets say 100 new “SEO” and “SEM” junkies came to these conferences after Aaron Wall or Rand Fishkin told them in advance it’s going to be a great event, must attend, tons of cool stuff going on, etc…. Provided them with discounted admission rates and other sweet talking.
These people are keyword domain fiends. They would buy everything up… Forget end-users. They would snap everything up that was priced “reasonably” and the whole atmosphere at these events would be different…. But no, nobody has thought of doing something like this. Don’t know why… Hmmm??! I don’t think that any of the conference organizers have a problem paying up $15k or $30k or $50k or whatever the “appearance” or “speaking” fee is for that one day… That is chump change. Come on now
Stop Wasting Everybody’s Time
So really, sooner than later, somethings gotta give. These conferences are hyped up with so much bullshit as of late… The “auctions” are suppose to be a big attraction and then there is a “crazy buckwild party” but come on… These are about doing business at the end of the day, so take out the hype and go back to the basics. Maybe even start from scratch. Something right now isn’t right and the domain industry and it’s insiders are being wronged in more than just one ways. Patience is running out. You are on thin ice!
Time is money… and I do hate seeing all these opportunities to break out onto the big stage, just never ever materializing as they should. Maybe we just need some new blood, but who can step it up…. Ahh!? Or maybe things will take care on their own, and poof… One or two of these failures will disappear literally overnight and we will all be better off that way. Who knows? Expect the unexpected in this biz… That’s how it is my friends.

Lets talk about Porn and Middle Men… MmMmMMm
There is going to be lots of talk and attention surrounding the porn industry thanks to the new Movie coming out this weekend called “Middle Men” starring Luke Wilson. I just got my tickets from Fandango and going to take out a bunch of my close friends from the good ol’ porn profiteer days… LOL
“Jack Harris (Luke Wilson) is a legitimate Texas businessman who wanders off the straight-and-narrow path when he meets Wayne Beering (Giovanni Ribisi) and Buck Dolby (Gabriel Macht), a slimy pair of Internet porn profiteers. Jack’s association with the men leads to his involvement with a host of other lowlifes, and though he tries to convince himself that he is staying clean in a dirty business, his disintegrating family situation proves otherwise.”
There is going to be lots of pornstars and adult content in this movie… Not something you want to take your wife or little GF to for date night. I am sure the movie will be pretty fun though, since it’s nothing like the usual Hollywood crap and has an actual storyline behind it which is suppose to be pretty cool and based on real events. It just so happens that in past few years I’ve done lots of biz with the Movie producer… So please, show some support if you can. He is a genius in his own ways!
Middle Men, the film produced by ePassporte.com owner Christopher Mallick, will be in Theatres in the United States this weekend in these cities and their surrounding areas: New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas Fort Worth, Austin, Seattle and San Francisco. For those of you who live outside of these areas, the film will open nationwide on August 20th.

Frank Schilling trying to squeeze out as much $$$ as possible
I’ve observed over the past few month’s some of Frank Schilling’s domains being monetized via REVnetics which is a service similar to that of Sendori. REVnetics.com seems to be in beta / by invitation only. Maybe Scott Day or Franky can clue us in and have some good news for us all
You know, I contacted Sendori recently but all I got was a lame automated response and then never even heard back from anybody after sending numerous e-mails to two different people. Talk about crappy customer service and practically a non-existent sales team. Whatever… Their loss!
Also interesting to see all of Frank Schilling’s domains having a pop-under come up immediately once you a visit a domain such as lmfao.com or tweets.com. I think they have been on there for a while now, don’t even remember to tell you the truth but there is an on-exit-popup that comes up once you leave the domain too. So that is 2 total annoying money-makers.
Don’t even know how often these generic portal types of pop-ups actually display, since almost every modern web browser used nowadays has a built-in popup blocker but I guess even if 10/100Â is displayed… That is some additional $$$ opportunities right there and he’ll take it. Wouldn’t you?
Frank Schilling has also been launching his own informational / guide style types of minisites, as well as monetizing his geo domains with 3rd parties such as Octane360 and adult domains with DomainSponsor…. Staying busy, without a doubt, and trying to squeeze out as much $$$ as possible out of all those hundreds of thousands of domains because PPC parking is still hurting.

Understanding keyword rich domains, their niche and valuating them properly..
Lets take for example DesignerLeatherHandbags.com which is a truly keyword rich domain and as good as it gets in every sense if you know what to look for that is. Now most designer / leather handbags are very much a “luxury” item that isn’t cheap. Most of these retail for at least a few hundred bucks while others cost thousands. Hell, some go for $10,000+ when you get into all that exotic and really high end stuff.
On any given day, there is about $800,000 to $1,000,000 on average worth of handbags / purse sales over at eBay.com. Around 9,000 listings close daily and the average price is just under $100 a pop. Now keep in mind that eBay is very much a “wholesale” and bargain finders type of place. Still, it gives us a good insight into just how many of these sell… An indication that the market is absolutely massive and very very active.
So just at eBay there is at least $5 to $6m worth of handbag sales each and every week of the year. That is 60,000 items selling every week… Week after week after week. The numbers really are as solid as it gets. So that is hundreds of millions of dollars in sales per year. Just one item pretty much; handbags. It’s probably safe to say that at least one million shoppers went after approximately 3 million of the sold auctions / listings.
Below is a graph of some interesting weekly data directly from the eBay.com Clothing, Shoes & Accessories > Women’s Handbags & Bags > Handbags & Purses listings / auctionss from the past 12 month’s. Averages are 1 week’s worth of data / totals.
But lets not forget that those sold items aren’t just any type of handbags; they aren’t referred as just handbags or bags but rather the designer and leather type of handbags. That is what everybody’s after. I am not really sure how big the “handbag” market is in the US or worldwide but it’s probably at least a few billion dollars worth. It’s also a luxury item where margins are always huge, so it’s a great business to be in. Everybody makes a lot of money and ultimately the client / buyer is still very happy because they get something special and unique.
Most of you would probably look at this domain, DesignerLeatherHandbags.com, a pretty long and not so clear domain that consists of three keywords, and it wouldn’t even leave an impression on you… If it was to come up on the daily expired Domain Stryker lists, most of you would probably give it a pass. The value and keywords aren’t all that great here, right? So it’s not even worth $60 or $100…. But you couldn’t be more wrong. Now let me explain why.
This is a keyword rich dot com domain that is really a triple threat. It is a plural, which means it ends with “s” so it has exact match benefits when ranking for the the singular targeted keyword “handbag” plus the plural which is “handbags” so that is a great bonus. You got the best of both worlds. Plural domains are always much more valuable than singular… Should be pretty self explanatory
The domain also contains two of the most popular complimentary keywords that go with “handbags” and that is “designer” and “leather” so this will really help us rank for all of the most desired keywords such as ___ leather handbag/s and ___ designer handbag/s. Search engines love keyword rich domains, and if the domain has the most relevant keywords that are directly matching or related to the search the better.
This domain is an SEO / competitive webmasters wet dream because it has all of the right keywords, it is aged (registered since 2004) so it has massive potential. I acquired this domain about a year and a half ago during an auction at SnapNames for exactly $89. I was prepared to spend at least $1,000. I got a great deal and was extremely pleased
About 6 month’s ago or so we put up a “quick start-up” minisite on this domain so it can start getting crawled and indexed with the search engines + establishing it’s profile. Just recently we had it re-developed as an affiliate store so we can start rolling in some profits. It’s currently ranking #1 at Yahoo.com for the root keyword, #2 at Bing.com and brings in a consistent amount of $xxx sales daily… Traffic is building up for the longtail thanks to Google as well. We’re on page 2 right now at Google.com but expect to crack the top few spots sooner than later with a bit of linklove.
Estibot.com says that this domain is only worth $1000… Ask another professional domainer and he will say $100… Ask another webmaster or domainer and he will say $500… Another will say $2000… etc. It’s really impossible to get an agreement on this stuff. However, to properly understand keyword rich domains, their niche and their true valuation / appraisal you gotta get down and dirty with the research.
You gotta do a lot of market analysis. Gotta crunch up the numbers not just for the main root keyword but related keywords as well because they are just as important and tied up to your domain if it’s in a niche-within-a-niche. You gotta figure out exactly what types of products you can up-sell well… You gotta figure out just how much traffic there is to be had. Lots of stuff to figure out
The current setup of the website up on DesignerLeatherHandbags.com could be improved 100x and we will probably do just that in the coming month’s since the hidden potential of the domain has been slightly revealed… We’re thinking either about doing something with a reliable dropshipping partnership or direct sales of a few very exclusive but in-demand brands.
Either way, I’ve already made my initial investment for the domain acquisition + development many times over. From here on it’s just optimizing and tweaking… Getting things right slowly but surely. Building something truly special and unique. It should be a lot of fun.
It’s nice finding these types of keyword rich domains… They are often overlooked and extremely hard to find because they are buried with all the other crap, but those who put in the hard work day in and day out will always get a nice payday sooner than later. That’s how it works folks… Nothing new. So roll up those sleeves and get to it… The domains are just waiting to be discovered

Fabulous.com will be auctioning off 217 .com and .net keyword domains from it’s own inventory April 25 – May 2, 2010 over at Latonas.com exclusively. You can browse the entire list of domains with local / global search volumes, ppc and ad data, appraisals, etc… Only at DomainStryker.com.
To make things interesting we’ll give away a free Domain Stryker membership to the person who can successfully predict which domain out of the 217 sells for the highest price when the auction closes May 2nd, 2010. I like the new auction format, where Latonas.com will run a new auction every day and each auction will be available for 7 days. Every day one closes as well so there is something to look out for daily. Like I said previously, Rick Latona is definitely onto something here and we wish him all the best.
If you got any on-topic groups of keyword domains and/or entire portfolios that are relevant one to another more or less, go ahead and get in touch with the guys at Latonas.com who will be happy to work something out. Lets keep it rocking… and good luck with the predictions! The winner will be announced shortly after all 217 domains close.
