I actually hand registered exact keyword matches on several domains. A few of them sit at the top of their category. I think it is fair to rank domains that provide content such as the ones I park at Why Park.

I acquired several domains which were previously owned, many that have a Google Page rank, backlinks, and site that link in to them. I managed to write enough content on several of my domains to reduce the Alexa below 1,000,000. Two of them reached 700,000.

It proves that investing time into promoting the domain is well worth the effort. I think Google may penalize domains that are linked to sites that have nothing to do with the link.

Many high priced domains selling at auctions lack performance. They are basically generating interest based on their keyword(s).

Cool article.
